Pinhole photography
It is completely dark on all the other sides of the box including the side where the point is created. This part is usually painted black, but black boxes are also used for this purpose. There is also a thin screen which looks like a projector sheet, and is put in between the dark side adjacent to the pinhole.
Up to a certain point, the smaller the hole, the sharper the image, but the dimmer the projected image. Optimally, the size of the aperture should be 1/100 or less of the distance between it and the projected image. |
invention: The camera obscura was not so much an invention as a discovery and development. The camera obscura works on a naturally occurring phenomenon (pinhole lenses) and can, for example, often be observed when sunlight filters through dense leaves. Over the centuries many people made contributions to the design of camera obscuras as we know it but all are based on the underlying optical laws that describe nature.
In class we were were asked to work in pairs to make notes about this image using the following questions

My response....
1.in this photograph i notice a man walking through a laundrette .
2.in the background i can see load of washing machines or tumblr dryers.
3.the image is circular possibly because the photo was taking with a circular lense or inside on of the washing machines thats why there are raindrops on the photo.
4.maybe the paper on the photo ripped.
5. because light has been exposed.
6.because he is moving faster than the camera shutter.
7.why would you make the washing machine the camera?

Steven Pippin (born 1960 at Redhill, Surrey) is an English artist. Pippin works with converted or improvised photographic equipment and kinetic sculptures.
Pippin's work shows a strong interest in the mechanical, which he has said stems from an early childhood memory of seeing his father surrounded by the wires and tubes of a television set he was repairing. Pippin's early work was based on converting furniture and everyday objects into makeshift pinhole cameras which he then uses to take sympathetic photographs. |
